So, did you get one today? I did not. I tried, but failed. Here in SC we only have AT&T stores, no beautiful Apple Stores. I did not get up early or anything and tried a few stores around lunchtime, all to no avail. Everyone of the stores was sold out.
I saw this interesting article about Apple possibly “manufacturing” a sell-out today by limiting the supply in stores. Based on my experience, I think I agree. I was told by a store manager that he had more in the back but could not sell them until tomorrow.
Any stories out there? Did you get one? Were you shut out as well?
I still love Apple and will try to get one soon, but I have to be honest, I just don’t understand intentionally having less product than you need in order to create a sense of “wow, they sold out.” I would much rather have the sense of “wow, I really love my new iPhone.”
Oh well, I’ll try again this weekend, I guess.
We’re not Apple people, but we’ve been experiencing that same kind of thing trying to pick up a component for our Wii. I’ve been to electronics stores all over the Metroplex, and I’m always told they just had some and I need to come on delivery day and stand guard at the truck (just in case, though there are no guarantees).
Nonsense.
I don’t understand why Nintendo doesn’t make enough product to meet the demand (same goes for Apple), because if other people are like me, we’re over it.
Yes - I did get one on Friday morning (8GB Black) at an AT&T store but only because we have a business account “connection” that told us how many they were getting and when to get in line. Now that you mention it, why would the AT&T stores only get 50-60 units and the Apples stores supposedly get 1200 each???
I tried to get a case for mine at the Northpark and Knox stores last night, but they were still only letting people in the store if they waited in a line (oh please).
Jeff Walkinshaw saw me after church and we compared the new iPhone with his iPod Touch with the 2.0 upgrade and the only difference I saw was the phone feature.
